His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, was born July 6th, 1935, and was recognized at the age of two as the reincarnation of His predecessor, the Thirteenth Dalai Lama. In 1950, at the age of sixteen, His Holiness assumed full political power when China invaded Tibet. and went into exile in 1959. Since then he has lived in the Himalayan foothills in Dharamsala, India. He has proposed a Peace Plan which has drawn praise from statesmen and legislative bodies around the world, but the Chinese have yet to enter into negotiations. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989, and travels the world, eloquently speaking in favor of ecumenical understanding, kindness and compassion, respect for the environment and, above all, world peace.
