JOSEPH M. MARSHALL III

Joseph Marshall III was born on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Raised by his grandparents, his first language is Lakota. Joseph was a former officer in the Marine Corps with service in Viet Nam. As a Lakota, he was one of three writers featured in Soldiers Falling into Camp, an account of the Little Big Horn Battle told from three points-of-view: Lakota, Crow, and the U.S. Cavalry. Joseph’s knowledge of tribal life introduces non-Native Americans to the nuances of bloodline and heritage, as well as the crucial task of keeping traditional language alive. Drawing on autobiography, nature, legend and the adventures of his family and neighbors, his books include The Lakota Way: Stories and Lessons for Living and The Power of Four: Leadership Lessons of Crazy Horse.
