Trees not only add beauty to our lives, they nurture our souls, heal our ills, and play starring roles in our myths, legends and history. The Almond tree has been a herald of spring and an emblem of the archetypical White Goddess since the dawn of civilization. Norse legends associate the Birch with Freya, Lady of the Forest, while the Indian prince Siddhartha is said to have found enlightenment beneath the Bo, or Pipal, tree.
Celebrate the majesty and spirituality of trees in this richly illustrated volume that includes over 80 breathtaking color photos and illustrations of 55 species from around the world, along with a complete description of each tree, its use in natural healing, its place in history, and its role in magic, folklore and superstition. Find out why the Maple is esteemed by Native Americans (as a cure for coughing), how the Sycamore made its way to England (it was brought by the Crusaders), who considered the Hazel to be the “Tree of Knowledge” (the Celts), which tree is mentioned over 70 times in the Bible (the Cedar), and more.

Trees give us so much. Lumber, firewood, medicines, food, shelter, and most of all...oxygen. Beyond that they grace the planet with their unique and individual beauty. I loved this book so much that I purchased one for my granddaughter and she loves it too! I recommend this book!

I loved the photographs and the stories as well as folklore that is included for each tree. It sits on my coffee table and it never fails that someone picks it up when I have guests.

I really enjoyed this book and I keep it on our coffee table for all to see and read. Trees are so important and so many take them for granted. This book had some very odd and informative facts and folklore and I loved the photos and images, which by the way can help us to identify the trees around us.

With the lovely pictures and fascinating lore, The Meaning of Trees opened my eyes to the intrinsic beauty and inherent value of those beings we take for granted, our trees. I've given it as a gift, and bought one for myself as well. I highly recommend it!
