The Homemade Pantry is more than a cookbook: it’s one woman’s tale of motherhood, family, love, ingenuity—all the emotions and psychological tools we work with today. It's a celebration of quality, too, of the food we eat and time spent in the kitchen. Sure, there's an abundance of pre-made sauces, crackers, condiments, cereal bars, spice mixes, snacks and canned goods available today. But are they really as good—and wholesome—as what you could make yourself? With Alana Chernila's recipes and cheerleading, it won’t be long before you are whipping up hot sauce, mustard, chicken nuggets, sandwich cookies and all kinds of pantry staples that taste so much better and cost so much less than their store-bought counterparts. I have not yet purchased this for myself, but my friend has and I looked through her copy today. I found this book to be very informative and the author to be quite charming and down to earth. I loved the "tense moments" feature on many of the recipes-very reassuring when you freak out and think you have really messed up! I plan to purchase this book in the near future.

I was warry about buying this book after a review on here about "offensive language" and mistakes. So I jumped on amazon as suggested and checked out the reviews. There are a few acknowledged errors, one in the bread recipe pertaining to the salt (should be 2.5 t, not the 2.5 T listed) but there was only one other review about offensive language. So I gave the book a try and I'm glad I did because I've had it about a week and have been using it almost every day. I haven't read every introduction to every recipe but I have yet to find the Lord's name in vain. If it is in here, it's once or twice, not a repeated thing. Also, I found the author to be a woman of great family values. There is a lot of love for her children and husband radiating in this book. Nothing offensive about that. Maybe the negative review on here and the one on amazon were written by the same person??? Order it for the recipes, they are awesome. Don't worry about offensive language, there's none to be found.

I would suggest before purchasing this book you read other reviews from Amazon about the lack of integrity of the recipes (many mistakes listed), and also that the language could very well be offensive to anyone who does not appreciate the author taking the Lord's name in vain. Just know what your purchasing before doing so. People have sent this book back.

Beautiful book- I'm a picture-book girl and this one does not disappoint. Lots of great, inexpensive stuff you can make and keep the preservatives/additives out of. Great for my collection!
