From acclaimed author Joseph M. Marshall III comes a new classic that’s part memoir and part manifesto about a new way of looking at how cultures impact our environment.
To You We Shall Return compares our current attitudes and policies regarding the natural environment to ancient Lakota beliefs and practices in relating to that same environment. Speaking from the viewpoint of the Lakota of the northern Plains, the author discusses the evolution of native cultures to fit within and adapt to the environment, as opposed to drastically changing it to fit human needs and comforts.
Changing our thinking in relating to—and coexisting with—mother earth will foster a renewed respect which will ultimately benefit all mankind.

Joseph Marshall is an inspired storyteller. I was moved again by his telling of the teachings of the Lakota People. To You We Shall Return contains lessons for all of us to heed. I feel as though I've met his grandparents through his stories. I was fortunate to have grandparents who shared their accumulated wisdom with me, and I feel that connection in his writings. Everyone would benefit from reading this book. May Joseph Marshall continue to share these teachings with us for many years to come!
